Welcome to the final project. You will be surprised that you have already done a lot of the initial work. Now it is time to put it all together. You will also need to present your final project to your classmates.

So, it’s a two-part project:

1. Written Portfolio (See Important Documents for Directions)

2. Oral Presentation (this can be a poster presentation or a traditional oral presentation).

Project Background
Throughout the course you will do substantial
research through tasks, discussions, and hands on
lessons which directly relate to a component of the
final project. The goal of this class is to explore the
many facets of entrepreneurial leadership. You will
meet leaders that have succeeded (and sometimes
failed), yet inspire us all. You will explore companies
that have found a balance between doing social good
and making a profit. You will explore social causes,
companies, leaders, and people that have changed the
world. How will you lead? Who will you inspire?
The first 1/3 of the class is about brainstorming new
ideas related to entrepreneurial leaders and the
companies they run. The second third of the class will
be to solidify your own ideas about entrepreneurial leadership. You will explore existing
companies you would like to lead. You may even choose to focus on your own company. The
final third of the course is all about pulling together your final project and making strategic
leadership decisions. Take time to ask questions and get advice from your classmates and
instructor. Rethink how leaders will look in the future. Unleash your creativity and dream big
about leading a socially minded company.
The final project will consist of 2 parts: The Final Presentation and the Final Paper.
The Final Presentation
This is where you will demonstrate to the class, both visually
and orally, what you have learned.

Part 1: Impact Statement
The social cause selected for this project is Climate Change; this is explained as the
longstanding change in the weather design of a place (Edenhofer, 2015). A good example of
climate change is the extinction of the ice age. For many years, climate change has been a
common phenomenon on earth; this is triggered by natural and artificial factors. Climate change
impacts every person on the planet; this is because when the temperatures elevate, every
individual feels it. The other impacts of climate change include floods, droughts, and others.
Consequently, climate change is detrimental to our health. However, the most affected people
live in the following regions: Haiti, Lagos, Manila, Kiribati, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The primary strategy that has been established to tackle the problem of climate change is
by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (Edenhofer, 2015). This is among the major
strategies that have been adopted globally. Besides, people are shifting to greener and renewable
energy. Additionally, different governmental and non-governmental bodies are at the forefront of
increasing forest coverage by planting trees. Since the last century, there are different laws and
acts which have been enacted in order to reduce the rate of climate change.
The first possible solution is the eradication of fossil fuels. The use of fossil fuels is the
leading contributor to climate change. Therefore, replacing them with renewable energy like
solar and wind energy is a possible solution. More so, the current infrastructure must be

redesigned to make them energy saving. Planting of trees and preventing deforestation is another
potential solution to this problem.
To sum it all, climate change is a problem that cannot be reversed, but it can be stopped.
Every person on the planet experiences its impacts (Edenhofer, 2015). Among the probable
solution include the adoption of greener energy, planting trees, and construction of green
infrastructures.

Uber
Uber Technologies Inc. is an international transport network company based in San
Francisco, American. The company was established in 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garret
Camp. It offers a number of services which include bicycle sharing, peer to peer ride sharing,
food delivery and ride service hailing (Lashinsky, 2017). Uber is a phrase from German which
means above or over. The founders, Camp and Kalanick came up with the idea after they failed
to find a cab in Paris one snowy evening in December 2008. They therefore thought of starting a
new company that could minimize the cost of direct transportation (Stone, 2017). In March 2009,
Uber was born with prototypes build by Camp together with his two friends Oscar Salazar and
Conrad Whelan. Kalanick joined them as a mega advisor for the company (Lashinsky, 2017).
The renowned online app which most clients use to request for Uber services was officially
launched in 2011 in San Francisco. Uber was initially named as Ubercab and it allowed users to
order luxury car services whose price was 1.5 times more than a normal taxi. The first employee
hired by Uber was Ryan Graves who also became the first CEO. From the first Uber ride in
2009, the company has successfully recorded more than 3 billion rides worldwide. Through its
mission Uber plans to ignite change in the world by putting the world in motion. Its main
mission is to have a world with few vehicles that provide efficient transport system.
Uber changed their CEO in 2017 a move that made them be efficient in business again.
The sales of Uber had diminished and only loses were being recorded. The organization structure
of Uber includes a leader in the CEO. Below the CEO, we have the Chief financial officer,

technology officer, legal officer, HR officer, product and chief of security. The structure also
includes SVP of engineering, business, policy & communication and leadership & strategy. The

third layer entails head of everything, general counsel and president of ridesharing.

The values of Uber include growing together while being focused on the customer
satisfaction. The other aspect that makes Uber standout is its ability of valuing the hierarchy of
ideas. Uber insists on doing the best actions each time and providing the best services to its
clients. The leadership management provided by Uber makes it at a good position to be the
company of choice when one is travelling. The way the employees have been harnessed makes it
more viable to improve its efficiency and remain competitive in the market.
