LA498 AMU Career Counseling Diversity & Ethics Worksheet Attached is the literature review and scaffold I Need a Diversity/Ethics scaffold paper 2,000-2,500 words using the scaffold info. APA format. The paper has to have diversity and ethics “hooks” because we want to efficiently assess your competency in global understanding and ethics within the context of a single research project. Also need to include the lens of at least two ethical theories to evaluate the potential equity of the different strategies and solutions. You will recommend areas for further study that might result in more equitable treatment of those vulnerable and disenfranchised groups. Your recommendation must be supported by well-reasoned evidence from scholarly research. Remember: you are not to propose solutions at this point, just lay out the possibilities! The below information is from the instructor to help you write the paper the items with – tabs have to be on the paper. Zero in on some aspect of that issue that affects vulnerable and disenfranchised groups differently from the way it affects dominant cultural groups. Continuing to add sources as necessary, you will analyze and synthesize the findings from the scholarly literature, asking how these groups have historically been, and currently are, impacted by the policies, decisions, and actions of others; what ethical principles have driven these policies, decisions, and actions; and what strategies and solutions the different parties have come up with. You will examine the issue from multiple perspectives, including your own cultural background and experiences and those of impacted individuals and groups. -Identify the groups of people around the world who may be adversely affected by the issue, and also the dominant groups who are not -Situate your own cultural perspective relative to the issue and these groups -Use Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory in some way as you analyze the diverse cultural perspectives -Address issues such as in-group favoritism, inter group bias, etc. -Describe the ethical issues involved in addressing the problem, being sure to draw on at least two ethical theories (Social Responsibility and Economic Justice) -Analyze the decision making process and action plans that have been tried -Examine evidence for social responsibility in these processes and plans -Identify the policies and practices presented in the research findings that might lead to equitable solutions (and which seem unlikely to do so). SCAFFOLD STEP #4: DIVERSITY AND ETHICS WORKSHEET

1. What is your faculty-approved global issue/problem? – The Lack of Career
Counseling and why is it important as we enter todays workforce.
2. How will you select the vulnerable and disenfranchised groups (and corresponding
dominant populations) affected by this issue? – I will identify the vulnerable and
disenfranchised population by selecting a group of those individuals that haven’t received
career counseling.
3. Draft a working thesis for your Diversity and Ethics paper that reflects the ethical
implications of your issue for diverse populations. – The need for career counseling is
evident in todays society. As young adults enter the workforce or graduate college with
little to no career guidance, leads them to choosing or even settling for the wrong career
field. Career counselors are trained professionals in giving clients expert advise on what
career best suits them.
4. What is your own cultural perspective on the issue and the chosen groups? – Every
client just as every career field is different, but the fact remains that proper career
counseling is needed for everyone.
5. How do the cultural issues studied in The Global Workplace, Part 1 influence the
competing populations? – The cultural issues in the case study prove the need expert
career advise. Many Career Counselors are hired by corporations to help increase
employee productivity and supervisory effectiveness.
6. How do the ethical issues studied in The Global Workplace, Part 2 affect the
individuals and communities you have identified? – The actions of the G2Q
management are completely immoral & unethical. Beginning with the secret agreement,
with the local leader. That agreement was made without regard to the local indigenous

people’s well being. Some were fired and others financial fate is yet unknown as the plant
might close due to financial reason.
7. Which ethical theories are relevant to your topic? Why do you think so? – Social
responsibility in organizational communication. As employees or supervisors in any
organization it is our duty to perform our duty for the best of that company as long as it
doesn’t violate any safety regulations.
8. Briefly note problem-solving and decision-making examples from the research
you’ve done. Explain why you consider them ethical or unethical. – If G2Q would
have opened their plant openly, without the secret deals and with the proper recourses
and locations, instead of diverting the water from the locals, this could have been a
successful operation. More work for the local population & more profit from the plant.
9. Analyze evidence of social responsibility in the decisions and actions of the
dominant cultural group. – The social responsibility or any organization is to operate
ethically and morally. In this case, the deceit to solely focus on financial gain, ruled out
any chance of ethical decisions along the way.
10. What will you say about how and why Hofstede’s Cultural Values Framework
relates to the populations examined in this paper? – Hofstede has identified six
dimensions that could separate one culture from the other. Individualism versus
collectivism applies in this case. Without identifying the cultural differences, it would be
hard to get a better understanding on why and how that culture operates.
11. What are the competing ethical perspectives? How will you use ethical theory and
reasoned evidence from cited sources to substantiate your assessment? – Doing what

is ethically and morally right at all times, would assist in the better operation of any
organization. Everyone in G2Q has a the ethical obligation to do what is right.
12. Based on the work you’ve developed thus far, review and revise your working
thesis. – The need for career counseling is evident in todays society. As young adults
enter the workforce or graduate college with little to no career guidance, leads them to
choosing or even settling for the wrong career field. Career counselors are trained
professionals in giving clients expert advise on what career best suits them.
13. From your work answering the items above, summarize ethical issues, policies, and
action strategies that might result in more equitable treatment and are worthy of
further study. – Just like the case study, my research for the need of career counseling as
we enter the workforce, ethical decisions from employees and employers alike along with
the honest assessment of a trained career counselor, with give an individual the right tools
to be successful.

Introduction
The Lack of Career Counseling and why is it important as we enter today’s workforce. 2
Career counseling is a tool which can be very effective in allowing students to
realize their true potential and find work that aligns with their natural inclinations. Career
counselors are trained to help people with their career choices as they interact with
different challenges within the work environment. This class of professionals must,
therefore, continually upgrade their skills and knowledge to help people as they
contemplate various activities within their career Rottinghaus, Falk & Park (2018). They
must deeply interview their clients concerning their skills, personality, and passion in
order to have an understanding of what is the efficient way to help them get the best
from their careers.
What became apparent during this review, was that it is the responsibility of career
counselors to be equipped with enough knowledge about the skills required in various
fields, minimum and maximum earnings that one is likely to get as well as the
requirements of each area. Rottinghaus, Falk & Park, (2018) notes that counselors play
an essential role in career guidance, where they match their clients with the best field
suitable for their skills and personality. This facilitates the creation of profitability and
suitability in terms of job satisfaction and monetary earnings. The role of career
counselors stretches from the point of job take over, all through the working period and
after work, thereby facilitating guidance to workers on how to get the best from their
employments. Pressure by peers, loved ones and mainly by today’s society on what is
an “acceptable profession” students feel guilty for attempting to pursue their own
interests. Kingston (2017).
Importance of career counselors in the workforce
The Lack of Career Counseling and why is it important as we enter today’s workforce. 3
Career counselors are concerned with the challenges that employees are facing
and offer both temporary and permanent solutions to them, Cardoso & Sales, (2019).
They therefore work towards improving productivity and engagement in any working
environment. When employees of a company have gone through career counseling,
there is a likelihood that they would be able to deliver the best services because they
have enough knowledge on how to deal with their employer and about handling their
duties. There is also increased retention in the workplace, which is a direct result of
employees who have gone through career counseling, they are more likely to be
retained within the organization, the possibility of employees working where they have a
passion is high. Before engaging in their chosen careers, they gained enough
knowledge about the requirements of the actual profession, as well as the salary it paid.
To guide others in any element being assessed in the workplace, counselors must pay
critical attention to specific attributes that are of great importance. Such qualities must
be variables within the job requirements, and they must be meaningful enough to
improve their individual performance. This context of requirements in this case varies
with the individual work environments and the role that each stakeholder is assigned.
Cohesion between these variables must be achieved if effective counseling is ever to be
realized in many of these instances.
In the workplace, counseling also boosts morale and performance quality.
Employees are motivated to work, with confidence as a factor they already have the
skills concerning the kind of work they are doing; hence, they find it easy to do the job.
When a task can be done entirely without much effort, it is usually accompanied by a
high level of motivation to address it. The quality of output also increases, leading to

the entire improvement of the company or organization. In an organizational
environment, it also helps in eliminating some of the burdens of mentoring by the busy
staff members. Career coaches play a vital role in answering more abstract careerrelated questions, Stevenson (2017) . Career guidance will help the employees explore
different strategies of coping with day to day issues that arise when interacting with
fellow workers and with customers. It also helps in the broadening of employees and
employer perspectives about the career. Through this, many ventures can be made and
new ideas that were not there before realized. Through proper application of skills in the
workplace, an organization can venture into new ideas that are in demand and that offer
solution to its clients.
The impact of counseling for first time employment seekers and young adults who
are freshly entering the workforce has been recognized to be of high relevance,
Stevenson (2017). These young adults have been associated with experiencing
difficulties in securing and maintaining employment. Studies have proved some
difficulties adolescents meet regarding the way they perceive their future career, Tocu
(2018). From the moment a young adult is planning on life after high school there is an
immediate sense of confusion and indecisiveness that leads to anxiety and fear of the
unknown. This is as different concern to what they are used to and normally face them
both in the workplace and at a personal level. Research has shown that many of the
new job seekers are usually depressed by job elements that drive them towards not
getting any satisfaction on different aspects of the job search and overall result. This
usually arises as these people strive to balance their income and their expenses. This
calls in the role of counselors who are vital in advising how to achieve a balance. Other

external factors also drive the performance of these young generations down as it is
hard for them to handle external forces within the job market. On the other hand, there
are others, mainly beginners in the job market, who start their employment status in
levels that are a bit lower than what they are qualified to do. In these cases of
employment, people may get discouraged, thereby facilitating the need to have a proper
career guidance by a career counselor.
Negative outlooks to career counseling
The effectiveness of career counseling has been often questioned by many.
These opinions are based on the fact that career counselors cannot predict how
successful a person would be in their chosen field. This is also based on evidence that
most career counselors will not be around after you begin your job or if you are not
satisfied with the outcome. There must be a bond between the counseled and the
counselor, once goals are identified they both must work together in order to achieve
them Alchin (2018). This bond is based on trust and knowing that the counselor
understands the needs of both the organization and the individual in order to enhance
both their quality of life and the overall objectives of the company. Negative thoughts
towards career counselors can drastically affect the outcome and effectiveness of the
process.
Much of these negative career-related thoughts are reduced after students, new
job seekers or current workers receive their first counseling session, Alchin (2018). It is
before that initial meeting that doubts about the process come to light, often by word of
mouth or the perception that a career counselor only wants what is best for their

organization. There is also the idea that will guide you in the direction that they think will
be best for you without taking into consideration your opinion.
Positive outlooks to career counseling
Career counselors starting at those different levels can help lessen that fear and
stress by evaluating their current talent and helping them in making that career decision.
Many studies have shown how students have difficulties deciding on their future goals,
as they struggle between the vocational or educational path, Tocu (2017). A career
counselor can help identify your motivations, strengths, and whether you are a good fit
for a vocational or a more robust education plan to become a professional in a specific
field.
A career counselor cannot only help you understand what you want to do but also
help you to better understand yourself and what your goals are. They can help you
understand those important life factors that can lead to a more rewarding and
meaningful life. This very beneficial in the first years of adulthood and throughout their
adult life. Counseling is also very beneficial for military members while serving and
when they are ready to separate and start a new life. Transitioning from the military to
civilian life can produce a culture shock and can be accompanied by feelings of stress
and the need to find a new identity, Palacios & Stoltz (2017).
Importance of career counselors in the military
When individuals opt for permanent and lasting careers such as an engagement in
the military, it is vital to engage professional guidance to offer help in the evaluation of
these kind of decisions. It takes a lot to make a personal decision to venture into the

military and to serve based on the extreme responsibility of this job. Career Counselors
may need to help people, including military personnel and leaders, to see the
importance of taking personal responsibilities and being committed to career ownership
and stewardship, AR 601-280 (2019). Military personnel need to be able to balance
their duties in the military together with other life roles. Military career counselors have
helped not only the service members but also their families because of the effect of the
absence of their loved ones who go take part in long and vital deployments. This
assistance can help personnel balance the demanding nature of work and families.
Counseling has also helped to improve performance and to help service members
professionally. Career counseling in the military not only focuses on the individual
person but also the armed forces needs as a whole, in order to create benefits in
present and future engagements. Career counseling is a continuous process in military
in all organizations (Cardoso & Sales, 2019). In multiple occurrences of events,
counseling may be required, for example in crisis, referral, adverse or normal
separation, and professional growth. Proper counseling in the military leads to higher
quality or work and overall readiness of the Armed Forces. When military personnel
have gone through career guidance before joining or deciding to choose a career field,
there is a likelihood that better job performance and satisfaction is accomplished
because of readiness and expectations created during the interview by the counselor.
Counseling and the military profession have primarily developed mutually as there
is a large interlink between the two elements. To cope with this distinctive environment
that is characterized by multiculturalism, different encounters, and at times risky
operations, professional counseling must be primarily enhanced, Rausch (2014). With

these resources, the military sector has been able to do staffing, preparations,
improving, and maintaining military force requirements. Honor, pride of selfless service
and sometimes retention bonuses alone can not retain our service men and women. A
knowledgeable career counselor more often than not is the reason why they continue
their service. Counselors enjoy working with military personnel and have become
advocates to those they serve. As many veterans can testify, bureaucracy also comes
with military service, and many resources remain merely potential for those who are not
able to reach out and overcome the bureaucracy. Counselors have been able to
access and exploit resources for military personnel and especially those that can be
invaluable to those personnel. Military career counseling begins from the moment a
person makes that decision to enlist and I continues all the way thru their exit and
beyond. It has enhanced inspiration by hindering proper job activities in the military.
This inspiration has been also abled by the general economic necessity for gainful
employment to supplement military requirements.
Military and civilian competency overlap have been standardized through
counseling. In such a case, the military is thoroughly trained on the appropriate moral
values and virtues to apply in the interaction with civilians. Such kind of facilitation has
enabled the military to take up other job specialization within the forces. This has largely
helped to offer a blend between the two, which, on the other hand, brings mutual
respect and understanding. Approximately 90% of military jobs have equivalent
matches in the civilian world. In some cases, there may be overlap between military
occupational and civilian occupational.
Conclusion
The Lack of Career Counseling and why is it important as we enter today’s workforce. 9
Career counseling is of great importance at various life levels and disciplines. It
starts at the school levels where scholars are equipped with dynamic knowledge on
various fields, thus enabling them to choose wisely the fields that they would love to
specialize in and informing the vocational path for students Palacios & Stoltz (2017). On
the entry point to the work market, individuals similarly experience various challenges
that call for counseling and guidance. Some of these challenges may range from
emotional distress from work and a challenge in establishing a balance between work
and life. On the issue of military application, the military profession is a bit sensitive and
calls for a lot of guidance and mentorship emotionally, psychologically, and mentally. To
also balance the military profession with other levels of professional specialization, the
role of counselors is highly appreciated. It is, therefore, evident that counselors form an
integral part of different work environments. Their existence within these environments
should therefore be supported and respected in a mutual manner.
