The Impact of Bullying on Human Development
Bullying is an aggressive behaviour that is aimed at harassing, embarrassing or
intimidating another individual. It is a form of abuse directed by an individual or group towards a
weaker individual or group. Bullying is one of the most dangerous behaviour that leads to mental
health and depression and anxiety. It is a big issue that may have a huge impact to a person’s life
and a generation after. Bullying is a vice that is rampant in most schools. Some parents who had
never experienced a bullying before may not have the right advice or know how to teach their
children on how to deal with it either in school or in the street. Therefore, some children may be
afraid of talking to their parents or teachers about the experience they had, which will have a
huge impact in their personality in future. This can lead a child to be mentally unstable,
aggressive to their parent or other friends outside the school zone and in extreme cases, it may
lead them to suicide.
Forms of Bullying
Bullying occurs in many forms since bullies use different styles to intimidate their target
victims. One type of bullying is the physical bullying. It is the most easily identifiable form of
bullying and as a result, it receives close attention from schools among other community settings
compared to other forms of bullying. Physical bullies are usually stronger and bigger and
therefore they intimidate and control victims using physical actions. Physical bullying involves
punching, hitting, slapping, kicking among other forms of physical attacks.
Another type of bullying is verbal bullying. Verbal bullies use statements, words and
names that are aimed at intimidating the target. They use harsh insults to hurt, demean and
belittle their targets based on their actions, behaviours or looks with children with special needs
being targeted most. Unlike physical bullying, verbal bullying is not easily identifiable since
most verbal attacks occur in absence of adults and also the victims may lack substantive
evidence when they report unless they have an audio or video tape of the incidence. Verbal
bullying needs to be seriously since recent studies show that it may lead to development of
emotional scars among other consequences. This is because verbal bullying is neglected in most
cases by simply advising the victim to ‘ignore it’.
Cyber bullying is another type of bullying that occurs in the current society which risen
as a result of increased use of technology among the young generation. This form of bullying
occurs when a cyber-bully uses technologies such as smartphones, internet and social media to
embarrass, harass or threaten their target (Kowalski & Giumetti, 2017). Cyber bullying involves
online threats, hurtful images and hurtful messages or mails. Cyber bullying is often cruel and
mean because bullies get the courage to say things that they cannot say face-to-face.
Relational aggression is another form of bullying which in most cases go unnoticed. It is
also known as emotional bullying and it involves social manipulation through rumour spreading,
incidence manipulation and confidence breaking with an aim of hurting the target or sabotaging
their social stands and popularize their own social stands. This form of bullying often used by
girls as compared to boys and victims often feel ignored, insulted, excluded, intimidated and
Prejudicial bullying is another type of bullying that is centred on biases and prejudices
towards the victim. This form of bullying may include all other types of bullying. Prejudicial
bullies use prejudices to discriminate others based on their sexual, orientation, religion and even
race. Prejudicial bully may cause severe consequences as it contributes to racism, hate and
crimes against people of different culture, origin and religion. Another form of bullying is Sexual
bullying which involves humiliating, harmful and repeated actions that are aimed at sexually
harassing the target. This type of bullying may involve vulgar gestures, pornographic materials,
crude comments, and sexual propositioning among other sexual harassment modes.
Cross Cultural Comparison
Bullying has huge impact on child development as it affects everyone who is involved in
the process that is, those who bully others, the bullied and even the witnesses (Menesini &
Salmivalli, 2017). Major effects of bullying include substance abuse, mental illness and suicide.
Those who bully others tend to develop a violent personality and engage in risky activities that
runs through to their adulthood. In an attempt to forget their violent actions, they have a high
likelihood of involving themselves into substance and drug abuse.
Due to their violent nature, bullies often get involved in unnecessary fights, property
vandalising and eventually dropping out of school. Schools have rules that every student must
follow and often they set rules against harassing fellow student through bullying. After
committing such an offence the bully may fail to do the punishment given by the administration
thus forcing them to expel the student. Furthermore, a child who grows up bullying others tend to
become abusive towards their close partners and even to their children due to their difficulty to
maintain social relationships. Also their violent nature makes it difficult to be educated or get
employed in future.

interview information, field trips, observations, photos, other non-academic sources (websites, etc.). This should be about two-four pages in length. You
should have more information on your topic from interviews conducted since the draft, and any additional information you have found.
#3) Cross Cultural Comparison (10 points)
A brief description of what this topic looks like in another culture. You can include photos or other graphics if relevant that you found in your inquiry, but
not required. This should be about one page in length in text, and can be longer if you include photos.
#4) Implications and Conclusion (5 points)
What does your inquiry tell us about human development? This should be about one paragraph to one page in length.
#5) References (5 points)
Include ALL references from your inquiry. These should be the full citations that match the citations in the body of your paper. Please follow the APA

communication” citations for all interviews. Examples of how to cite personal communications are posted in the WRITING GUIDELINES. Technically
