Article 1 Summary
Effect of Ego Depletion and Expectancy Beliefs on Working Memory, Problem Solving, Task
Persistence, and Performance
According to this article, the terms Ego Depletion is believed to have been the topic of
discussion by many researchers and most importantly in the field of psychology, it is believed to
have received a substantial attention. Under many research cases, Ego Depletion is said to occur
after performing a task which requires self-control. According to this case study, Ego Depletion
state is said to be characterized with a temporary deprecation in the energy level which may be
required to get prepared to take place in a particular activity. Therefore, a decrease in self-control
will be registered since there will be a decrease in the level of energy level required for mental
activity.
As a way of examining this article, the study examined 20 undergraduate students from the
University of Sargodha who were randomly distributed to each of the six groups. Upon conducting
a multivariate analysis of variance, the results found justified that the participants in the non-ego
depleted groups had a significant higher mean score Working Memory and problem-solving task
as compared to those in the ego-depleted groups. However, the group with a positive Expectancy
Beliefs had a higher mean score on problem solving task and Working Memory as compared to
counterpart groups.
Being that the sampled population was only confined on the undergraduate students from
the department of psychology, the validity of the current study would therefore be low. In regards

to this challenge, future researchers are therefore advised to consider a diverse sample so that the
validity of the study would be higher.
Question 1: If you were Dr. Sheena how would you feel? Why?
Automatically I would feel low demoralized with duty taking. This is because of being
regarded emotionally weak and only seen as a homemaker with a male counterpart whom we have
same qualifications with. This action will make me loose the courage of duty undertaking due to
reduced energy level.
Article 2 Summary
Women, Gendered Work and Gendered Violence: So Much More than a Job
Basically, this article examines what women who work with men who are violent
experiences. The major focus of this article is on the differential gendered impacts of a certain area
of practice. For a very long period of time, there have been incidences of violence witnessed in
workplace which range from one point to another. According to this article, violence intervention
has been widely seen as a task which is difficult, demanding, and often confronting. The workplace
violence may be experienced differently by both men and women, however, the gender which it
seems to impact heavily and broadly are women working in the same environment with men.
Therefore, this article is focused at building upon an understanding of the gendered nature
within the workplace. Exceedingly, this article is focused in revealing the distinctively gendered
nature and the possible impacts of working with men who are violent as well as giving insights on
the complex interplay of the gendered individuals within the gendered oriented workplace in
relation to a specific gendered activity which resembles that of men’s violence. The article

indicates that under many circumstances, the work is poised to bring together and impacts on
individuals and professional domains.
Questions 2: Why do you think Dr. Vijay was behaving like this?
Dr. Vijay was carried away with Ego which made him believe that women are inferior
being and should not perform same task as men. His Ego therefore brought in gendered violence
which made him to deprive Dr. Sheena her duties and resulted in workplace discrimination. Men
usually believe that they are masculine and strong enough to perform their duties single handedly
and this stereotype made Dr. Vijay to discriminate Dr. Sheena due to her feminisms and termed
her as an emotionally weak being who is only fit to become a home maker.

Upon considering the two reviewed articles provided, the topic under consideration is

someone lose the moral of undertaking his or her duties normally. Also, upon considering the case
C we saw that Dr. Vijay, made Dr. Sheena to feel discourage after telling her that she is emotionally
weak and only fit to become a homemaker. Therefore, this article does well in contributing to the
topic of study through provision of a scenario where a surgeon was shot and killed in Brigham and
Women’s Hospital in Boston at work by the son of a patient who died in January 2015. It therefore
explains violence in work place and potential mitigation actions.
Major point from this article is that Healthcare violence occurs daily but they are rarely covered
by the Media or reported
Also the article states that although majority of the healthcare violence being violence, there are
many others which involve domestic violence, assaults, sexual harassment or stalking.
Also the research of the article indicates that despite the health sector being the highly subjected
sector to violence, the best possible universal risk reductions measures are yet to be discovered.

Article 3 summary
Women Employees and Workplace Conflict: An Issue in Women Empowerment: A
Research Study Conducted on Employees of Ntpc.
According to this article, there is global belief that women are negatively affected by the
conflicts which erupts within the workplace hence they developed a continued problem in working
with one another. This major global concern therefore makes Women Employees and Workplace
conflict an emerging issue in the women empowerment. Therefore, the main of this research is to
examine the behavior of women employees when they get involved in a conflict state with the
workplace. Upon conducting a research on this issue, the researcher of this study found that, in
most cases when women employees get involved conflict, they prefer avoiding the situation with
an aim of protecting their self-image from being judged by colleagues other than confronting the
situation.
Being that workplace violence is a global concern due to its frequency in occurrence, this
research is aimed at inspiring women employees to understand fully and manage workplace
conflicts. In the wake of realizing the intended goals, the research sampled 60 employees of NTPC
was conducted and hypothesis tested. The hypothesis results showed that women employees are
affected by workplace conflicts resulting into stress and tension. However, the results found that
the conflicts affecting women are inflicted by men in most cases rather than women themselves
and there is done to create a belief that women can’t work among themselves normally.

This article mainly constitutes the results from a survey conducted by the researcher at
Millikin University which was on the challenging workplace cultures which are experienced by
women in technical theatre. In the wake of goal realization, the researchers managed to reach out
to 600 females who are well conversant with the theatre design and production practitioners. They
then found that the significant challenges that women tend to face in theatrical design and
production industry career include negative workplace environment luck of support for parents.
Also the study proceeded on to investigate the gender equity as well as parity as a way of
giving a deeper insight on the specific challenges encountered by women in workplace. Upon
conducting this study, the researchers found that the theatre community has all it takes to provide
an inclusive environment for women, so that they may achieve success in their undertakings
without feeling low or discriminated at any point. Also, the theatre community was found by the
researchers to have the potential of building a foundation for the achievable industry intended wide
changes.

Workplace Violence and Workplace Aggression: Evidence Concerning Specific Forms,
Potential Causes, and Preferred Targets
As a way of addressing the topic of the study, this article’s major concern is to address the
workplace violence and workplace aggression. The study therefore states that the increasing
number of news report have been creating an impression to the public for past years but it intends
to challenge the impression by saying that, the occurrence of workplace violence, that is, the
extreme acts of aggression such as direct physical assault represents a relatively rare event in the
workplace. This shows that the news reports have been giving out false information over the
workplace aggression. The article therefore says that workplace aggression such as the efforts
made by individuals to harm current or previous colleagues are the major workplace violence
actions and are posing a bigger threat to the individuals and the entire organization. This article is
therefore focused in providing empirical evidence on different forms of workplace aggression as
well as their rate of occurrence within the work place. As a way of analyzing this topic, the study
has also provided a framework of managing and preventing all forms of aggression which may
occur in workplace.

Upon reviewing this article, we find that the major keywords in this article are
communication, problems, workplace, and solutions. Just as the topic of study, this article aims at
identifying workplace problems experienced in varied cases, and providing better mitigation
practices of reducing or eliminating the problems. This article therefore reviews workplace
problems which are associated with communication. It is understood that communication is the
basis of every action within an organization and there is no process that can take place without
communication. However, the major problem only comes in when an organization and its
employees luck the ability to learn, use, exploit appropriate communication practices. The article
there is focused in looking into organizational communication questions and the likely problems
to erupt as well as providing thoughtful solutions which will enhance an organizational
communication, learning and instructions.

Discussing things openly with core workers will help sort out workplaces issues since
